Orihuela receives a provincial grant to sterilise cats in urban colonies
Orihuela Town Hall has received a provincial grant to fund sterilisation treatments for ownerless cats living in urban colonies across the municipality.
The funding comes from the Provincial Council of Alicante’s 2026 grant programme. It was approved by the council’s governing board on 1 July and published in the Official Provincial Gazette on 9 July.
The money will support reproductive-control treatments for community cats, helping the municipality manage urban colonies responsibly and improve animal welfare. The grant forms part of a wider provincial call that distributes funds among beneficiary municipalities. The measure is intended to support both population control and the wellbeing of cats living in these shared urban environments.
