Poll suggests Spain’s Socialists lost 450,000 votes after Toledo train crash
A Sigma Dos poll indicates that Spain’s governing Socialists lost support after the deadly train crash in Urda, Toledo, with the change appearing particularly strong among younger voters.
The poll, carried out on 29 and 30 October, put the PSOE below 25 percent and below the psychological threshold of 100 seats in Congress. It also recorded an immediate fall of 1.7 points, while support among young people dropped by nine points.
The Partido Popular rose to 31.1 percent and Vox fell to 19.3 percent in the same survey. Electoral analyst Pablo Pombo said the results are significant but represent only a snapshot, and that further polling will be needed to determine whether the trend continues.
